A Message From The Crypt...

Hey everyone!!  I didn't consult my co-authors, but I feel confident that I can represent their feelings accurately.

The last few weeks have been wild.  As sad as it was to shut down the original Crypt, we are surprised to find a whole new batch of followers... vocal followers at that!!  There's no doubt in our minds that with an outlook of "small and mighty", all of us will have everything we need.   Great music, great community and a bright future to look forward to.

So from all of us - thank you!!  Your comments and love are the fuel that keeps the Crypt moving forward, making it a wonderful place to visit.

On a more personal note, I am excited about the Crypt redux for several reasons.  The biggest would be the opportunity for me to establish a foundation of pre-bebop jazz.  There are a handful of great blogs which are solely or partly dedicated to this sect of jazz, but I want the Crypt to be thought of for this.  The original Crypt had an outstanding archive with tons of important recordings tied to the old school, but I always felt we were missing some.  Now I have the opportunity to establish that.

OK, I suppose that's all for now... keep on keepin on people!!!

  1. again many many thanks for all your efforts, you spend so much time and care on uploads etc! a big thank you!!
Also your plan to explore pre-bop jazz is wonderful: the cats who invented bebop otr became masters of that language all heard.... pre-bop music in their formative years! and first worked in... pre-bop bands! (ok they did not know that at the time :-D) So I feel deeply it's important to know pre-bop to better understand bop - plus it's great music!
So count basie me in for the new adventures! :-D
    Yours sincerely

  2. You're performing a wonderful service in shining a light on music that would otherwise fade from consciousness. This is one of my favourite sites. Keep up the good work!

  6. Thanks so much for all you're doing.

I'm partial to the modern material, but it's all good.
    It's all great.

  7. You're not alone Alan, but I am sure there's something which may appeal to you. I certainly don't expect to convert everyone's tastes, perhaps we can pull in some new followers too.

I think the Crypt will always lean slightly on the bop side with an overall majority of sides coming from the mid 50's to late 60's. Hey, nothin wrong with that...
