This 2008 album is the second release from Dutch modern jazz quintet Wired Paradise, led by saxophonist Yuri Honing. The band includes guitarists Frank Möbus and Paul Jan Bakker, bass guitarist Tony Overwater and drummer Joost Lijbaart. Honing's website describes the sound as "lavishing rock, hypnotising [sic] electronics and roadmovie tunes", adding "most compositions on this album are inspired by recent masterworks from Hollywood, such as Kill Bill, Usual Suspects and L.A. Confidential." Fans of these films will note that these are tracks eight, one, and four, respectively. Track three is an up-tempo cover of "Wild Is the Wind", the song previously popularized by David Bowie and Nina Simone. The standout is the trance-ish, mid-tempo track six "Lost", which attracted me to this album after I heard it on an avant-garde jazz internet radio station. ~ Extract by K. W. Schreiter, amazon.com.
