Rosario Bonaccorso Quartet - Viaggiando (2015)

Bonaccorso is one of the "elder statesmen" in modern Italian Jazz circles. In Italian, "viaggiare" can have any number of meanings from traveling, to journey, or to tour. Inherent in the term is the idea that the flow of movement is the focal point, it is the journey itself that counts, not necessarily getting to the destination. Traveling with friends makes the process all that more enjoyable and also helps the time pass more pleasurably. He is joined by old and new traveling companions: Roberto Taufic: Guitar, Fabrizio Bosso: Trumpet and Javier Girotto: Soprano Sax, Quena and Moseño. The music on this CD is different because it reflects past jazz traditions while, at the same time, incorporating influences from today’s World Music. The music swings but the time is less metronomic and more inferred through the use of Latin Jazz rhythms.

‘Viaggiando’ consists of 14 original compositions that propel listeners head-long on an incredible journey, subtly shifting from one continent to another, while drifting through emotions linked by the common thread of the "voyage”. A deep introspection pervades Rosario Bonaccorso’s music, portraying a soul-searching autobiography that reveals his passions and inspirations. There are also a few tracks where the musician sings for the first time: Storto, My Faith, Mon Frere. Once again, he has chosen his travelling companions with acute sensitivity and awareness. At his side, Fabrizio Bosso sustains the creative flow, as he intuitively chisels evocative melodic fragments with his trumpet, while Argentinian saxophonist Javier Girotto and Brazilian guitarist Roberto Taufic blend in seamlessly into the fabric, further flavouring this journey with the cultural sensitivity deriving from their homelands." ~ Extract from Jazz Profiles.

Jano Quartet feat. Luca Aquino - Distante (2012)

Distante is the second rehearsal in the studio for the Marche-based Jano Quartet, after the interesting self-produced debut Naked Things. On this occasion it is Via Veneto Jazz to publish the album, in which trumpeter Luca Aquino also actively participates, capable with his never predictable musical vision of giving further expressive keys to the already wide spectrum of the band. Theirs is an electro-acoustic approach, as the electronic component plays a central role in the compositional strategies of the ten originals in the program, which range with ease from relaxed situations such as Affinity-Michka to passages with a sourer and more controversial flavor, such as Marching of Thousand People. Between the lines we can read the desire to break determined and predictable patterns, adding rhythmic matrices full of grooves, solos that undertake tangents close to free and figurations that intertwine even complex melodies. The diversity of the writing of the pieces, six of which are signed by the pianist Emiliano D'Auria, brings to this work the alternation of flavors and atmospheres that keep alive a tension that would otherwise fail. Exemplary, in this sense, is the passage in the lineup between the ballad with sentimental features Yelizaveta , the organized chaos of the rumoristic The World Is Changing Hertz , and the chiaroscuro tones that pervade Viola. ~ Roberto Paviglianiti, suono.it. Enrico Pieranunzi with Simona Severini - My Songbook (2016)

The renowned Italian pianist has worked wonders on this captivating album and has shown himself to be a genius songwriter with deft technique and a restless imagination. The album contains eleven of Pieranunzi's own compositions, music and lyrics that flow effortlessly thanks to acclaimed vocalist Simone Severini, who exudes an amazing sensuality and pairs well with her expressive voice. Pieranunzi and Severini began collaborating in 2012 on the occasion of the recording of a tribute to Lucio Dalla and have continued to work together ever since. The compositions are skillfully arranged by Pieranunzi in various forms, from duet to sextet, with an amazing range of expression demonstrating the quality of the involved musicians among Italy's most famous jazz artists (Luca Bulgarelli, Nicola Angelucci and two guests Rosario Giuliani and Francesco Lento). "My Songbook" is an engaging listening experience with lyrical eloquence. ~ Via Veneto Jazz.

Fabio Zeppetella American Quartet - Handmade (2013)

Handmade is an emotion that takes us directly into the soul of the author with his compositions "by hand" from Zeppetella whose new project finds him the leader of a quartet of international jazz players: Aaron Goldberg on piano, Greg Hutchinson on drums and Matt Penman on bass. The originality of the sound that emanates from Fabio Zeppetella's fingers in this latest project seems to have been created by the artist and chiseled in his image. Equipped with an impeccable technique and great musical sensitivity, he uses a unique and personal language. He arrived at the elaboration of a completely original sound, passing from the tradition and music of masters such as Charlie Cristian and Wes Montgomery to the evocation of be-bop and hard-bop of the sixties. In his phrasing we discover the dominant aspects of a language that is never predictable, sometimes virtuous, sometimes sweet but always essential. Its dominant characteristics are constituted by the sweetness and strength inherent in the original way of interpreting music, in which the desire to seek a virtual link with poetry is evident. ~ romatoday.it. Max Ionata Quartet feat. Fabrizio Bosso - Dieci (2011)

Max Ionata is undoubtedly one of the most interesting saxophonists on the European jazz scene and this latest work proves it in its own right. At the head of a quartet made up of extraordinary musicians who have been following him for the past ten years (hence the title of the CD) such as Nicola Muresu on double bass and Nicola Angelucci on drums and Luca Mannutza on piano, Ionata produces a truly convincing performance. The songs, almost all original, give a very high-level mainstream, interpreted with taste and great interplay. Max Ionata's stamp is decided, the voice of his saxophone is warm and biting, his phrasing, while not lacking numerous references to sacred monsters of jazz history from Dexter Gordon to Coleman Hawkins from Ben Webster to Sonny Rollins, Lester Young, at the same time, has the tendency to go beyond the historical-stylistic limits showing great personality, extraordinary ideas and sensitivity in interpretation. The musicians who accompany him are all wonderfully blended and interact with effectiveness and precision, without ever hindering or excelling, managing to create a perfect balance between dynamism and sweetness, between delicacy and aggression. Surely Ionata knows how to capture the listener's attention with a decisive and disruptive attitude. He is a volcanic artist and knows how to play with the imagination and the skill that distinguishes him but above all he knows how to make every interpretation enjoyable. Emblematic in this sense are the songs "Turn Around", "Lode for Joe" and the fantastic "Astobard", "Coltrane meet Evans" and "L'Altalena" where the added value of a formidable soloist like Fabrizio Bosso gives a quality and a overwhelming, vibrant force that borders on stylistic perfection as well as transmitting deep emotions, enclosed in the unrepeatable moment of delicious two-voice games. ~ Alessandro Carabelli, Jazzitalia. Max Ionata, Dado Moroni - Two For Duke (2012)

The artistic paths of Dado Moroni and Max Ionata intersect in honor of Duke Ellington, giving life and sound to Two for Duke. A one-way trip to Ellingtonia, a land created by two of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, Duke Ellington and his collaborator Billy Strayhorn - a man who avoided the limelight yet many believe to be the true inspiring source of Ellingtonian aesthetic. Regardless of who did what, these two contemporary geniuses left an indelible mark on music in general, not only on jazz. Ellington and Strayhorn invented something new, laying the harmonic and melodic foundations of a musical language that was several decades ahead of their time. Produced by Jando Music, in collaboration with Via Veneto Jazz, this album reflects the passion that Dado and Max always shared for Duke's music, heavily influencing them through time. The refined dialogue between sax and piano portrays all the passion, love, and admiration for this great American jazz musician who indelibly shaped world musical heritage. Moreover, Dado Moroni worked extensively with key sidemen from Ellington's band such as bassist Jimmy Woode and drummer Sam Woodyard, allowing him to fully immerse himself into the original sounds of the man who, according to many, is considered the greatest composer in jazz history. Thanks to prominent saxophonist Max Ionata's extraordinary interpretative skills, these sounds are unquestionably present in Two for Duke.

High Five Quintet - Jazz Desire (2004)

Fabrizio Bosso, is a well-known Italian super trumpeter, and here Fabrizio joins together with other equally successful Italian jazz players as the High Five Quintet, one modelled on genuine hard bop traits. Essentially, this group united to produce some amazing compositions and deliver them with such muscular energy. Within the formation is tenorist Daniele Scannapieco, pianist Luca Mannutza, bassist Pietro Ciancaglini and drummer Lorenzo Tucci; all well-regarded on the continent and leading artists in their own right. Together as a group they have such a gorgeous tone, amazing technique and singing phrasing, all of them masters of their individual instruments. It should be noted that all members of the quintet, except Lorenzo Tucci, contribute some thrilling original compositions to the mix. Overall, portraying the title 'Jazz Desire', this album should appeal to all jazz lovers, regardless of age or taste, enjoy!
