Recorded Live at the Village Vanguard, NYC, Feb. 13, 1972One of the greatest Strata East albums, and one of the few albums ever by Keno Duke (and all of them are great). Duke leads a crack group of soul jazz players, featuring Clifford Jordan and George Coleman on tenor, plus Julius Watkins on French horn, and Harold Mabern on piano, who is in excellent excellent form, and who really drives the whole thing with beautiful crashing chords. Two extended tracks, both of them over 20 minutes in length. Beautiful!

    both Keno Duke are great! heard them a long while ago. May this new Crypt gonna be a cosier, closer to the heart kinda one, with all the GOOD intentions it originally started out with...

    Excellent rip! As for the music, I am not a fan of the horn screeching, but other parts were quite good. Agree about Mabern.

    But who is/was Keno Duke and what happened to him? According to Lord, he only ever recorded the three Contemporaries sessions; there is not even any sideman appearance! Strange, considering how well-known and oft-recorded the other members of this band are.
