Not particularly rare, mint copies are readily available from Italy although I don't believe there has been a CD issue. I picked up an mp3 of this at Arkadin's Ark years ago, however I've never seen a lossless rip in blogland, so here's my effort with full scans.
In the USA jazz the 70s was dominated by 'the arid wastes' of commercially successful fusion music. Straight ahead jazz musicians were ignored by the major labels and we have to thank the Europeans and Japanese for giving many musicians the opportunity to record.
The Adams Pullen band was undoubtedly one of the best groups of the late 70s. This LP is a live recording in Italy and if you're familiar with the Timeless and Soul Note issues you'll know what to expect - you won't be disappointed. The long track 'Big Alice' is as funky as it gets and not an electric instrument in sight!

I have never been disappointed by anything you have posted and, as we here in the dis-United States watch a certain carrot-topped, bombastic, reckless, unprincipled presidential candidate finally being held legally accountable for his fraudulent university, I reflect upon the contrast of the education I have obtained gratis from these blogs and all of the posts and concomitant information provided by you, Chris, Peer, Poppachubby and others under the aegis of a benevolent King.
ReplyDeleteN0w that I am retired I have ample time to read about and listen to music, and am not exaggerating when I write that it has been a thrilling and deeply satisfying experience that has worn down my ankle and toe joints because of the incessant tapping to the beats. I still see articles and other media commentary bemoaning or remarking upon the moribund state or announcing the death of jazz and I am grateful that you, le Roi, and other contributors as well as the followers of this blog, Bolden's and your own blog so actively discredit such crap. I still regard jazz as this country's and, in particular, black America's unique contribution to the world and we are far better for it. That Armstrong kid was really on to something a century ago.
Again, thank you for the love of the music and its masters that your posts communicate. In particular, I know far more about European jazz because of your efforts. Ironically I thought I was stopping by the Crypt only briefly when I was seeking posts of Jim Pepper's music several years ago and stumbled upon the it. Instead I am now about to buy my third and fourth external hard drives because of the generosity of all of you. It will be money very well spent. My only concern is that I spend so much time hanging around the Crypt that I may soon be falsely accused of necrophilia.
